Astronomy is the branch of science that involves
the observation of celestial objects (such as stars, planets, comets, nebulae,
star clusters or galaxies) as well as natural phenomena that occur outside the
Earth's atmosphere (such as cosmic background radiation (CMB radiation) ). This
is the basic science studies the different sides of celestial objects - such as
the origin, nature of physics / chemistry, meteorology, and motion - and how
knowledge of these objects describes the formation and development of the
universe.
Astronomy as science is one of the oldest, as
known from astronomical artifacts originating from the prehistoric era; eg
monuments of Egypt and Nubia, or Stonehenge from Britain. People from some kind
of early civilizations of Babylon, Greece, China, India, and Maya also found to
have done methodological observations on the night sky. However, although it
has a long history, astronomy will be developed into a branch of modern science
through the invention of the telescope.
Quite a lot of branches of science that never are
included as part of the astronomy, and if observed, the nature of these
branches are very diverse: from astrometry, based shipping space, observational
astronomy, to the preparation of the calendar and astrology. However, today's
professional astronomy is considered synonymous with astrophysics.

WALI- ASTRONOM AMATEUR FROM INDONESIA |
In the 20th century, professional astronomy is
divided into two branches: the astronomical observational and theoretical
astronomy. The first involves collecting data from observations of celestial
objects, which will then be analyzed using basic principles of physics. The
second focused on efforts to develop computer models / analytical to explain
the properties of celestial objects as well as other natural phenomena. As both
of these branches is complementary - theoretical astronomy trying to explain
the observed results of observational astronomy and observational astronomy
will then try to prove the conclusion made by theoretical astronomy.
Amateur astronomers have been and continue to play
an important role in many astronomical discoveries, makes astronomy one of the
few sciences where amateurs still holds the power active role, especially in
the discovery and observation of transient phenomena.
Astronomy must be distinguished from astrology,
which is the belief that destiny and human affairs related to the location of
celestial objects such as stars or rasinya. It is true that these two fields
have the same origin, but at this time they are very different.
