UNDERSTANDING COMPUTER NETWORK
Network (network) is an operating system
that consists of a number of computers and other network devices that work
together to achieve a goal that is the same or a network that consists of
points (nodes) are connected to one another, with or without cable. Each
functions as a work station nodes (workstations). One of the nodes as media
services or servers, that are regulate certain functions of the other nodes.
Basically a computer network technology itself is a combination between computer technology and communication
technology.
The purpose of the computer network:
1. Network enables more efficient management
of resources: for example, many users can share a single printer with high
quality, compared to using low-quality printers at each desk. Additionally,
network software licenses can be cheaper than a separate stand-alone license
for the same number of users, and share the use of CPU, Memory, and harddisk.
2.The network helps retain the information in
order to remain a reliable and up-to-date: centralized data storage system is
well managed allows multiple users to access data from different locations, and
restrict access to the data while it is being processed.
3.The network helps speed up the process of
sharing data (data sharing). Data transfer on the network always faster than
other means of data sharing is not the network.
4. The network enables work groups to
communicate more efficiently. Letters and delivery of electronic messages is
the substance most network systems, in addition to the scheduling system,
project monitoring, online conferencing and groupware, all of which help teams
work more productively.
5.The network helps businesses to serve
their clients more effectively. Remote access to centralized data allows
employees to serve clients in the field and the client can directly communicate
with suppliers.
In order to achieve the same purpose, any
part of a computer network request and provide service. The party requesting
the service is called a client (client) and the service is called the service
(server). This architecture is called client-server systems, and is used in
almost all computer network applications.
Advantages Network
The main advantages of network sharing
instantly felt it was, a global Internet, because the Internet itself is
essentially a series of computer (thousands and even millions of computers)
that are connected to each other. Evolved and developed over time, thus forming
a complex network as we feel today.
Another advantage in terms of the
internal network are:
1. Resource Sharing, can use existing
resources together. Suppose a user is located 100 km away from the data, do not
have difficulty in using these data as if the data is located nearby. This
often means that the computer network to overcome the distance problem.
2. High reliability, with our computer
network will get high reliability by having alternative sources of supply. For
example, all files can be saved or copied to two, three or more computers
connected to a network. So that if one machine breaks, then the copy on another
machine that can be used.
3. Save money, small in size computer has a
price / performance ratio that is better than a large computer. Large computers
such as mainframes have a speed of approximately ten times the speed of a small
computer / personal. Will remain, the price of mainframe thousand times more
expensive than a personal computer. The imbalance of the ratio of price /
performance and speed is what makes the system designer to build a system that
consists of personal computers.
4. Hardware sharing, For use hardware
together. With the network facilities then use a tool called a printer server.
then a color laser printer that expensive price can be used jointly by 10
employees. Similarly, scanner, plotter, and other tools.
5. Security and data settings, the computers
in a business environment, with the network allows an administrator to organize
the data the most important offices. In every department of becoming fragmented
and data scattered everywhere. The important data can be managed in a server
back end for later replicated or backed up according to company policy.
Similarly, an admin will be able to control the critical data is to be accessed
or edited by people who are entitled to it.
6. All computing performance increase
instability and, in certain circumstances, a network can be used to improve the
overall performance of business applications, by way of assignment computing
distributed to multiple computers on the network.
Network losses
Various advantages of media networks have
been extensively described above, but the loss has not been mentioned at all.
Network with a variety of advantages are very helpful at work in a company. But
the disadvantages are also many, if not in knowing from the start. Here are some
of the disadvantages of the implementation of the network:
1. Costs are high and then higher again.
network development covers various aspects: the purchase of hardware, software,
consulting fees for network planning, and network construction costs for the
service itself. High infestation is certainly for a large company with a need
for high network. Whereas for home users is relatively small and the cost can
be reduced. But from the beginning of the network also must be designed so that
there are no overhead costs swelled by a mission to fulfill this need for a
computer network.
2. Hardware Management and Administration
System: In an organization of companies that already have a system, the
administration is perceived is small, at least when compared with the cost of
the work and the costs incurred in the implementation phase. But this is the
most important stages. Because of Errors at this point may lead to
reconsideration even reset network construction. This maintenance management is
ongoing and requires an IT professional, who has correctly understood its duty.
Or at least do not have the training and network training that is specific to
the needs of his office.
3. Sharing unwanted files: With the good
comes the bad, it is always a common thing applies (ambiguous), ease of sharing
files in a network that is intended to be used by certain people, often
resulting in the leaking of sharing folders and can be read also by people
others are not eligible. This will always happen if it is not set by the network
administrator.
4. Application viruses and hacking methods:
these things are always a frightening specter for everyone, resulting in
network down and cessation of employment. This problem is a classic because the
system is not well planned. This issue will be further described in chapter
network security.
