MONTRÉAL , ScienceLovers - The major storm line that crossed all of Québec on Wednesday evening dissipated for good in the middle of the evening with the arrival of a cold front in the province.
By 8:30 pm, all of the severe thunderstorm alerts and warnings that had been issued throughout the day by Environment Canada had been withdrawn.
At the end of the afternoon, severe thunderstorm alerts were in effect for several regions of the province, ranging from Montréal and its surroundings to the Capitale-Nationale region, including the Laurentians, Lanaudière, Mauricie and the Center-du-Québec.
A tornado alert was also briefly issued around 4:30 pm for the Quebec and Mauricie regions. However, thunderstorms were less severe than expected.
Other regions, including the Outaouais, Eastern Quebec and Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, had also been placed under the watchful eye of severe thunderstorms.
The large amount of hot air well established in Quebec over the past several days has been pushed by a cold front, which has caused storms and sometimes heavy rains that swept the province late in the afternoon and on the hour of the supper.
After the rain, the return to normal
The passage of the cold front, however, is yet another surprise for Quebeckers. After several hot days when the mercury was nearing 30 degrees Celcius, autumn will resume its rights as of Thursday morning while a maximum of 12 degrees is expected for the day.
Fortunately, the sun should remain at least until Sunday, Environment Canada predicts.
