Insurance company Aviva reported a trend of destroying property while in the metaverse fueled a 31 percent increase in home content claims involving VR headsets last year. Overall, the increase has reached 68 percent since 2016.
“As new games and gadgets become popular, we often see this play out in the claims made by our customers. In the past we've seen similar trends involving consoles with handsets, and fitness games,” said Kelly Whittington, UK Director of Property Claims at Aviva.
According to an Aviva report, the average VR-related claims for accidental damage in 2021 will be around £650. Often the purported properties of damaged TVs are destroyed by enthusiastic gamers.
